How I Manage to Not Neglect My Skin While Working on the Road

Kiehl's Polo Park

Kiehl's Polo Park

I’m in the middle of an annual work trip that takes me across the province, mostly outdoors for two full weeks. A few years ago, I wouldn’t have bothered to pack any kind of skin care, mostly because I didn’t have any type of routine. I’ll try any new product I hear great things about but I also consider myself a Kiehl’s customer.  I found them, specifically Karen at Kiehl’s Polo Park, when I needed the most help. Aside from washing my face, I did very little else but knew I wanted to expand my skincare to moisturize and protect. Karen has been an amazing resource in learning about how my skin best stays protected and cared for.

In going on the road and spending almost 10 hours a day outside, I wasn’t sure what would work the best while taking up the least amount of space.  Our days are full of hiking and paddling so a suitcase is traded for a gym bag crammed with only what’s essential.

Karen couldn’t have been sweeter in setting me up with travel sized everything, which I really want to share with you here. What I use from Kiehl’s has been chosen based on a consultation (free!) at the store.

Gently Exfoliating Body Scrub in Grapefruit

It’s creamy and lathers as you use it, plus the scent of grapefruit is amazing as you step into that morning shower!

Crème de Corps Hydrating Body Moisturizer

I follow up my shower with this rich, non-greasy moisturizer. It’s a cult fav among Kiehl’s users.

Ultra Facial Cleanser

A little really goes a long way. A pea sized amount lathers up nicely and most of all, my skin doesn’t feel tight or dry after I’ve washed it.

Calendula Herbal Toner

I secretly want to drink this toner. It’s refreshing, light and smells great. The calendula leaves are inserted into the bottle by hand.

Daily Reviving Concentrate

It’s 100 % natural and prevents skin fatigue on my long days outside. It actually makes my skin glow.

Skin Rescuer Stress Minimizing Daily Hydrator

I have long been a fan of this moisturizer.  I use it day and night and in the summer when I come in from being outside for long periods, I’ll gently wash my face and treat it with the skin rescuer. I’ve given some to friends to use while at the lake after a day in the sun and they love it too.

Ultimate Strength Hand Salve

As I’m in bed, about to turn off the lights, I apply the hand salve. What I like most about this product is that once it’s applied, it’s absorbed and it’s non-greasy. With other products, I’ve had to allow time for my hands to dry before turning out the lights. I find it really works.

When it comes to SPF protection, Kiehl’s doesn’t mess around. I’ve been using and loving:

Activated Sun Protector Sunscreen SPF 50

I really dislike heavy, greasy sunscreens.  I find Kiehl’s Activated Sun Protector really light, non-streaky and it absorbs quickly without feeling like you’ve just applied sunscreen.

Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50

Oh my gosh, I love this product!  I spent two full summers testing sunscreens made especially for the face and couldn’t find one I really liked. They were too heavy, left me with acne, or they didn’t absorb and left white streaks across my face. The Super Fluid UV Defense is a bit more money but so were the other sunscreens I tested. Super Fluid is light, I apply it after moisturizing.  It's super thin so I find it goes a long way and my face doesn’t sweat after it's been applied. That in itself is a huge win for me!

Butterstick Lip Treatment

I don’t know if it’s the weather or just aging, but I find my lips looks incredibly dry in photos and especially after coming in from being outside all day.  The untinted lip butter (it comes in beautiful tinted shades too) feels nourishing on my lips and absorbs quickly so my lips aren’t greasy or tacky.

No matter what you choose for your skin care routine, I wish you and your skin a healthy summer!
